Excellent podcast guys. The whole certification dilema is a big one. I know people with thosands of hours and aren’t even Anusara Inspired. They don’t want to be”labeled”. I wonder about that- I mean I don’t know if I would want to teach a tantric philosophy based yoga class and use the UPA without calling them that and then not acknowledge the source. I feel like being inspired gives John credit for the method he has created.
Anusara changing the certification for Inspired also threw us for a loop up here. I think I want to become certified but why I want to is sometimes selfish I think. To me it is my PHD I never got a chance to finish with kids. I also think the process calls me to really push myself and hold my studentship as a process with deep meaning- I mean I really take this seriously. I look to practice my yoga every day with my kids, husband, friends and colleuges. How can I use what I am learning to be a better person – be fully present- in everything I do. It is sometimes daunting.
Oh and the word you were looking for Elsie was not “justified” ..I think you were searching for “validated”…
Leanne! Thank you so much for your thoughtful comment. Personally I haven’t come across very many teachers that don’t want to be ‘labeled’. I guess it’s because I’ve always been around the Anusara Kula, or when I worked at Yogaworks those peeps had no problems affiliating themselves with the studio or their specific styles.
Not honoring the source I do see as a sort of dishonesty. Now that it’s all been changed to Inspired and no longer Affiliated (which I was) and I’m in the process of Certification, but not inspired, I’m really nothing in proper Anusara terms, but I still honor John’s teaching, and I consider myself a student of Anusara. Once I start to teach again, I will most definitely tell my students what I’m teaching. I couldn’t imagine not! I didn’t come up with it
We have to be selfish. That’s the whole point. The more subjective you can become about your life the more universal principles you can see all around you. Just merely the fact that this process is taking you to the fringes of yourself is such a blessing. When it ceases to do that, is the time that you should be wary.
Thank you so much for the word Leanne! Sometimes those darn things just escape me!
I have mommy brain…I remember stuff at three in the morning……..and then sit up and yell stuff like “decisive!” “parasympathedic!” …lol
Can you please remind me what I said that you guys wanted to talk about? ( from the Dec pod cast…) I left you a message on the phone.
Love Leanne :>)
hey leanne..
glad you have more to chew on here to savor and it does matter to honor the source this is how we practice humility and if we help our students they say we did.. through the honor of the source we are all connected to its how we can get stronger as a yoga community by honoring all that is and is yet to be revealed.
this process is personal and find out what it means to you and ask yourself when in meditation – what wants to emerge from you when you are teaching. if you are aligned with anusara then there it is.. one other note is that anusara is john friend and bigger its a grand orchestra of the heart that all of us are part of even if we are signed on or not.
dont remember what that was you wanted to talk with us but you can think of something new.
glad to be of service…
keep it real woman xxoo
